There is no way to avoid tragedy, and no fairness in its dealing. Often, the evil are rewarded and the innocent are victimized.

We live with the knowledge that our life hangs in a balance that we cannot control. We experience the sensation of being deer in headlights– staring down the certainty of loss and unable to move out of the way. Similarly, deer are prey in many ways- they are vulnerable to predators in the wild, and have historically been a source of food for hunters and prized for their pelts. Like them, we cannot truly defend ourselves against the inevitability of fate.
